Pest Control Operators (Basic Proficiency) Training program

Overview

Training for persons involved or interested in the Pest control industry  

 Two-day in-person training

July 14 – 15, 2026

PTCCB Office, NAREI Compound, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara

Cost: $5,000 (GYD) for Registered Pest Control Operators AND $10,000 (GYD) for individuals or private companies. 

(Payment can be made on or before the first day of training. We accept cash, cheques, online bank payment or MMG payments.)

Duration: 8:30 am – 4pm                                  (Both days)

Companies must submit a cover letter addressed to the Registrar, specifying the names of participants being registered for the course. The cover letter should be accompanied by the completed application form and the required documentation for each applicant

The Pest Control Operators Basic Proficiency Training Program provides the foundational knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively deliver pest control services. Pest Control Operators play a critical role in improving public health and quality of life managing nuisance pests, controlling disease vectors, and helping the structural integrity of buildings. 

Given the significant impact that pest control activities can have on people, property, and the environment, it is essential that practitioners are properly trained. This training program equips participants with the knowledge needed to carry our pest management activities responsibly, safely, and in accordance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

  • Individuals seeking to enter the pest control industry.
  • New employees of pest control companies involved in pest management activities.
  • Individuals responsible for identifying, monitoring, and managing pests in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.
  • Anyone wishing to become a certified Pest Control Operator (PCO).

What can you expect from the course?

  • Understand the concept of pests and how their characteristics influence successful management strategies. 
  • Recognize the major invertebrate and vertebrate pests commonly encountered in urban environments.
  • Gain a basic understanding of insect taxonomy and identify the major insect orders important to pest control operations.
  • Learn about the range of pest management approaches available, including both chemical and non-chemical control methods.
  • Develop an understanding of pesticide formulations, classifications, characteristics, and toxicity.
  • Build the foundational knowledge required to safely and effectively carry out pest control activities in accordance with industry best practices. 
  • N.B: A certificate is awarded upon completion of the training.
